Azerbaijan to Turkey

Universal was the project management consultant to the Turkish national pipeline authority (BOTAS) for the 1,077-km, 42-inch Turkish section of the Baku, Azerbaijan to Ceyhan, Turkey crude oil pipeline project.

Services provided included project management, engineering, survey, route selection, GIS/MIS coordination, project scheduling, cost control, geological consulting, environmental regulatory compliance, pump station and meter station design and construction support for the pipeline.

Technical Integrity Assurance Program

Baku-Tbilisi

Universal was retained by BOTAS to assist with the development and execution of the technical integrity assurance program during the land acquisition and construction phase of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan crude oil pipeline project. This was the first proactive pipeline integrity program to be implemented prior to commissioning or operating of a pipeline.

Ceyhan Pipeline Company

Baku, Azerbaijan

Universal provided over 100 expatiate personnel to assist with the start-up, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline (BTC) crude oil pipeline. The experts included marine terminal operations experts, pipeline and pump station operations personnel, tank farm operations personnel, offshore operations personnel, instrumentation and electrical commissioning technicians, Health Safety and Environmental experts, fire response experts and training specialists, SCADA engineers, rotating equipment specialists, metering experts, materials and procurement specialists and numerous other compliance specialists for the safe operation and maintenance of the pipeline, pump stations terminals and related facilities.

Bolivia to Brazil

Universal provided a QA/QC construction management team to the contractor to manage and oversee the quality of pipeline welding for the construction of 235-miles of 32-inch pipeline. The contractor was having a very high weld rejection rate and the QC Management Team brought the rate within acceptable industry standards.

Bolivia to Brazil

Universal provided a QA/QC construction management team to oversee the construction of 300-miles of 36-inch pipeline in Bolivia and Brazil.

El Paso Production Measurement Facilities

Brazil

The scope of this project involved the installation of measurement facilities to serve as permanent delivery points to Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. ("Petrobras") at their Guamare processing facility in Rio Grande Norte, Brazil. The measurement facilities include a natural gas meter station with two 12-inch orifice meter runs with capacity of 60 MMscfd per run, and a gas chromatograph; a natural gas condensate liquid meter station with two 2-1/2-inch liquid turbine meter runs with capacity of 275 gpm per run, a BS&W monitor, and a small volume prover; a DAC building accommodates the SCADA system, flow computers and power distribution equipment.

Chevron Overseas Petroleum Projects

Angola, Korea, Kazakhstan, Congo, United Arab Emerates and Brazil

Construction management and inspection services were performed by Universal on offshore platforms, offshore pipelines, docks and tankage. These services were provided for Cabinda Gulf Oil Company (Chevron Overseas Petroleum) in Angola, Korea, Kazakhstan, Congo, the United Arab Emirates and Brazil.

Conoco Ecuador Block 16 Projects

Ecuador

Pipeline engineering assistance was provided to Conoco Ecuador Ltd. by Universal for route planning, design criteria, pipeline facilities design, alignment engineering, cost estimating and technical specifications for design and construction of over 100-km of dual main pipelines and flow lines to be constructed in Ecuador as part of the Block 16 Development Program.

Universal provided engineering assistance for Block 16 production facilities design. In these efforts Universal advised various Ecuadorian engineering companies in computer aided drafting systems to comply with Conoco engineering requirements.

PetroChina Company Limited

Beijing, China

Engineering services were provided for the preparation of construction packages for the gas turbine driven compressor station at Jingbian, located on the 40-inch East to West Pipeline. Universal developed the detailed design and drawings for the compressor facilities consisting of two (2) 30,000 Horsepower Cooper Rolls-Royce RB211 gas turbines driving RF36 Centrifugal Compressors for a total of 60,000 installed horsepower.

Enron Engineering and Construction Company

Severnaya, Russia

Universal provided engineering design, drafting, material procurement assistance and on-site construction advisors for a 28,000 BHP natural gas compressor station located 15-miles from the center of St. Petersburg, Russia. The station consists of four (4) Solar Taurus Gas Turbines driving Solar C-402 centrifugal compressors. The minimum design temperature for this station -28°C. The capacity of this station, the last station for gas delivered by LensTransGas to Finland, is 1.041 BSCFD.

Pipeline Engineering and Survey Management

Algeria

Overall supervision and quality control was provided over the local survey crews in the routing and preliminary survey of three 48-inch crude oil pipelines at three different locations in Algeria. The work was completed in approximately three months. Drafting was done in Houston by Universal draftsmen and engineers who were assigned to an integrated project team.
